Commission launches European regulatory isolated environment for blockchain

The isolated environment is supported by the Digital Europe Programme, an EU funding programme aimed at presenting digital technology to businesses, citizens and public administrations.

The Commission has launched the European regulatory isolation environment for blockchain. Isolated environments are controlled environments where companies can test products and services in cooperation with the relevant regulatory authorities.

This framework will provide legal certainty for the use of decentralised technology solutions related to blockchain.  In a secure environment, barriers from a legal and regulatory perspective will be identified and legal advice, regulatory experience and guidance will be provided. This should also allow regulators and supervisors to improve knowledge of state-of-the-art blockchain technologies and exchange best practices through dialogue.

From 2023 to 2026, 20 projects will be supported annually in an isolated environment, including the use of European public blackchain service infrastructure on the European blockchain service infrastructure, a multi-country project under the digital decade supported by the Commission, all Member States and Norway and Liechtenstein. The first call will be open until 14 April 2023.

The isolated environment is supported by the Digital EuropeProgramme, an EU funding programme aimed at presenting digital technology to businesses, citizens and public administrations.

The isolated environment will also help Europe to deliver on the digital leadership ambitions of the Digital Decade as reducing legal uncertainty over blackchain applications will enable applications across sectors.

More information in the isolated environment and information for interested parties can be found on this websitethe Q & A document is available here, and the application forms are available here/ open call is available here.
