Science Cafe: Cancer Prevention

On Wednesday, March 8, on the occasion of International Women's Day, a Science Café was held on the topic of cancer prevention.

The event was organised in cooperation with the Representation of the South Moravian Region in the EU, the Czech Liaison Office for Education and Research CZELO, the Czech Center in Brussels and the Prague House in Brussels, .

The guests were from scientific and communication fields.

The first guest was Kateřina Šédová, founder of the organization Loono, whose mission is to motivate people to think about their health. Thanks to her contribution in the field of prevention, she was included in Forbes magazine's 30 under 30 list and won the Health Award of the European Commission for her cancer prevention campaign. Loono educates in the following areas: reproductive health (#doledobry), mental health (#dobrénytro), prevention of oncological diseases (#breastbowl) and cardiovascular diseases (#zijessrdcem). The organization also created the Preventiveka mobile application.

The second guest was Nina Formánek Jaganjacová, the founder of the Sifty 52 organization and the author of the book Stories about cancer (Příběhy o kravině), which was created as part of the #příběhyo project. Nina focuses on health from the perspective of social policy and international development and has experience in the field of health in the European Commission, UNICEF's HIV/AIDS office and the UN headquarters in New York.

The audience joined the discussion in several ways. Immediately after the debate, the audience could ask both guests various questions.

The Q&A was followed by a #breastbowl prevention demonstration workshop led by Ms. Šédová.
