The European Urban Initiative

The European Urban Initiative (EUI) is a key initiative of the European Commission that promotes sustainable urban development for the new programming period 2021-2027.

It is a key tool that supports cities of all sizes, builds knowledge and capacity for cities and supports innovative solutions to urban challenges across the EU -And.

The EUI will publish several calls for urban innovation projects and support, among other things, the exchange of capacities and knowledge on sustainable urban development.

The first call for innovative actions has already been launched in October 2022 in support of the recently closed New European Bauhaus, with 99 applications from 21 member states. Winners will be announced in June.

The second call for urban innovative actions will be published in May 2023 with 120 million euros for projects:

  • green cities
  • ensuring sustainable tourism
  • exploitation of talents.

In order to support the candidates for this second Call for Innovative Actions, three seminars will be organized in June and July. It will also be possible to join online webinars and question-and-answer sessions.

With a budget of EUR 450 million during 2021-2027, the EUI builds on the positive achievements of the Urban Innovation Actions, which supported 86 projects with EUR 372 million in the period 2014-2020. throughout the EU.
