Osijek-Baranja County was presented with the flag of the European Sports Region for 2024 on December 7, 2023 in the European Parliament in Brussels at the "Annual awards GALA" ceremony of the non-profit organization ACES Europa.

The county delegation consisted of Deputy Prefect Josip Miletić, Head of the Administrative Department for Tourism, Culture and Sports Tatjana Turalija and General Secretary of the Sports Association OBŽ Dubravko Ižaković, and the head of the office of the Representation of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem Renata Taušan also attended the ceremon

Osijek-Baranja County received an award (flag) in the European Parliament as the holder of the title of European Region of Sports 2024. Thanks to this, we had the opportunity to show everything that is important for our sport, to give guidelines for further development, but also to create foundations for strategic investments in the future . There will be a special emphasis on work with young people and children, on amateur sports, because we want more people to get involved in active sport, which is the key to the development of our county. I also thank the organization that awarded us this award and announce big sports events next year in Osijek-Baranja County - said Josip Miletić.

Obtaining the title of European Sports Region for Osijek-Baranja County is the result of several months of work on the candidacy, including the creation of a "Bidfile" as a document on the development of sports, sports infrastructure and sports achievements in the area of ​​the county, and the visit of a high delegation of ACES European capitals and cities of sport federation of Osijek-Baranja County.

This is a great achievement and an indicator of work and investment in sports and sports infrastructure of Osijek-Baranja County, not only in terms of sports clubs and results, but also in terms of the health of our young people. Since I am the coordinator of the European People's Party in the Subcommittee on Health, we often emphasize the importance of prevention and a healthy lifestyle, in which sports play a significant role. I believe that the competent Ministry will recognize this and accompany this title with certain investments in order to really promote sports in the east of Croatia - said Tomislav Sokol, a Croatian representative in the European Parliament.
