CLIMAAX - Open Call

Climate risk assessments for every european region. Within the Mission Adaptation, CLIMAAX aims to develop a customized framework and toolbox for climate risk assessment at local and regional scales.

CLIMAAX will help local and regional authorities and communities gain a deeper understanding of the climate risks they are exposed to, and empower them to take action, assist communities in evaluating their past experience and progress in assessing climate change risks.

The European landscape of disaster risk management and climate adaptation is far from uniform. The EU Adaptation Strategy highlighted the urgent need for more ambitious efforts in climate adaptation, climate-proofing, resilience building, prevention, and preparedness. The EU Mission on Climate Adaptation has laid out an ambitious framework for local and regional transformative adaptation, aimed at preparing Europe to deal with climate disruptions, accelerating the transformation towards a climate-resilient future, and building deep resilience by scaling up actionable solutions.

The CLIMAAX methodological framework connects strategic CRA components, based on:

  1. establishedprinciples (e.g., related to governance, equity, social justice),
  2. technical choices(e.g., for parameters, climate scenarios etc.),
  3. participatory processes(learning, communication, consultation).

These three conceptual dimensions frame the climate risk assessment steps which leads to information on climate risk that can support adaptation and risk management planning.

They are looking for single applicants:

  • Public bodies (including regional authorities, municipalities, as well as public agencies) with a mandate to develop Climate-related Risk Assessments and Risk Management Plans in a given region or community.
  • Non-profit legal entities representing a local/regional community of people with social ties, shared values, or interests, engaged in joint action developing their activities in areas with vulnerability to climate change impacts and challenged by climate change adaptation.

Application deadline: March 8, 2024. at 17:00 Brussels time.

CLIMAAX Open Call beneficiaries will receive:

  • Up to 300,000 EUR lump sum funding per project.
