A conference was held in Brussels on the subject of continental tourism and the preservation of the natural and cultural heritage of Slavonia and Podravina.
In the joint organization of the Office of Representative Karl Ressler in the European Parliament, the Representation of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem and the Virovitica-Podravine County, a conference was held on the topic of continental tourism development through the preservation of natural and cultural heritage with an emphasis on the role of EU funds.
The conference was attended by representatives of the Virovitica-Podravine County, the VIDRA Development Agency, the Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas of Nature and the Ecological Network VPŽ, the Public Institution Papuk Nature Park, the Polytechnic in Virovitica, the Technology and Innovation Center Virovitica, the Tourist Board VPŽ and representatives of the Požega-Slavonia County , including the mayor of Pleternica, Marija Šarić.
At the conference, the representative of the European Parliament, Karlo Ressler, made an introductory speech , who welcomed all those present and referred to continental tourism as one of the main goals of the conference. In addition, he pointed out that Slavonia, Virovitica-Podravina County and Požega-Slavonia County are examples of tourism development in continental Croatia. At the same time, he thanked the head of the Office of the Representation of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem in Brussels, Renata Taušan , for her efforts in organizing the conference where the counties presented the tourist pearls of their areas.
Andrović also addressed those present, pointing out that the destination of Slavonija and Podravina is becoming increasingly recognizable.
"The Virovitica-Podravine County is part of the continental tourist region of Slavonia, named the destination of Slavonija and Podravina, and is becoming an increasingly recognizable and rewarding tourist destination. This is how castles and mansions are restored, cultural tourism is developed, and the focus is on green, i.e. eco tourism. Currently, 92% of the territory of VPŽ is in the category of rural areas, and the new era of tourism development began about 15 years ago with the availability of EU funds, when we invested approximately 60 million euros" - said Prefect Andrović , thanking Representative Ressler and leader Taušan for organizing the conference.
The conference was also attended by the member of the European Parliament, Christian Sagartz , who spoke about continental tourism in Austria and the Croats from Gradišće who cherish the preservation of Croatian heritage in Austria.
The director of the Pleternica Public Institution, Jasna Hoffmann, who manages the Museum of Bećarac, pointed out that the realization of the idea of the Museum of Bećarac took a full ten years and involved a large number of stakeholders from all over Croatia. The exhibition presents the intangible cultural wealth of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem, which is on the UNESCO list of intangible cultural heritage of humanity.
The panel also discussed the development of the continental area of Slavonia and Podravina, biological diversity, nature protection and the transformation and development of the area through the use of EU funds, and the most important tourism projects such as the Janković Castle Visitor Center, the Dravska priča Visitor Center, the Geo- info Center Voćin , Visitor Center Križnica , Hotel Kurija Janković in Kapela Dvor, TIC Klopotec and two ongoing projects Tourist and Recreational Center "Jezero-Hercegovac-Ružica grad" and Center for Health Culture in Cabuna .
The representation of Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem continues to fulfill its fundamental role, which is to represent the interests of the region, to connect stakeholders from the local, regional, national and EU levels and to present successes in the management and use of EU funds with the aim of increasing competitiveness and visibility.
