The Commission has invited more than 1,000 members of the European Clean Hydrogen Alliance to submit projects for technologies and solutions based on renewable low-carbon hydrogen technology.
This is an important step in building a portfolio of sustainable investment projects to achieve the goals set out in the hydrogen strategy for a climate-neutral Europe. The deadline for project submissions is May 7. At the next hydrogen forum meeting on June 17th and 18th, the projects will be reviewed and connectivity will be made possible.
Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton said: Pure hydrogen has a key role to play in decarbonising many sectors of the economy while contributing to a more resilient and competitive EU industry. This call is an important step forward in the work of the alliance. It will help build a portfolio of projects and assess and address gaps and bottlenecks in the pure hydrogen value chain.
The EU's hydrogen strategy aims to accelerate the introduction of pure hydrogen in Europe. The strategy sets the strategic goal of installing a 6 GW electrolyzer for the production of hydrogen from renewable sources and production of up to 1 million tons of renewable hydrogen by 2024 and a 40 GW electrolyzer for the production of hydrogen from renewable sources and 10 million tons of hydrogen from renewable sources by 2030. The goal of the European Alliance for Clean Hydrogen, launched in July 2020, is to identify and build a portfolio of sustainable investment projects along the hydrogen value chain with a view to green transition, creating a clean hydrogen market that contributes to growth and jobs and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The European Pure Hydrogen Alliance brings together industry, national and local public authorities, civil society and other stakeholders. It is strongly anchored in the value chain of hydrogen, which includes hydrogen from renewable sources and hydrogen with low carbon emissions, from manufacturing through transmission to industry and energy. Six roundtables are active in the thematic working groups responsible for the operational work of the alliance.
