New European Bauhaus: support for cities and citizens for local initiatives

The Commission has announced three new calls for the implementation of the New European Bauhaus (NEB) on the ground.

The support is specifically targeted at citizens, cities and towns to integrate the New European Bauhaus project deep into their communities.
The first and second calls, launched by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), focus on citizen involvement activities and the joint creation of public spaces with citizens.

Call - Citizens' Engagement Activities - calls on citizens to identify the relevant challenges of the New European Bauhaus for their cities, and to work together to develop solutions together. The projects will help citizens acquire more sustainable habits, develop new products, services or solutions, and help community members become agents of change.

Call - Joint creation of public space will support projects that find innovative solutions within the themes of the New European Bauhaus. The projects invite local actors to be inspiring, beautiful and sustainable in their ideas in order to redesign public spaces in cities, urban and rural areas by creating new solutions for transformation. The deadline for applications for the two EIT calls is 29 May 2022 at 23:59 CEST.

Call - Support for local initiatives of the New European Bauhaus provides technical assistance to small and medium-sized municipalities that do not have the capacity or rich expertise needed to turn their NEB project ideas into reality. Under the call, 20 site-based project concepts will benefit from tailored field support provided by a team of interdisciplinary experts to design concepts modeled on the New European Bauhaus and the objectives of the European Green Plan. Cohesion policy support is intended to help introduce a place-based approach to NEB initiatives at regional and local level, and to engage public authorities in the Member States to launch more projects under the New European Bauhaus at national level.

The knowledge and lessons learned during this process will be introduced into a "toolkit" for other municipalities, as well as the general public interested in developing new or replicating existing New European Bauhaus projects in the field. The European Regional Development Fund finances technical assistance to municipalities. This can take the form of methodological, technical, regulatory, financial and socio-economic expertise of the field expert team that will support the further development of municipal project concepts, as well as a package of instruments for future project owners. The application deadline is May 23, 2022 at 5:00 PM CEST.
